BASIC GAME SET WITH 5 CUBES AND LETTER TILES
ALPHA CUBES® starts with a basic set of 5 colored cubes uniquely designed with the letters of the alphabet strategically printed on the faces of the cubes. The basic set comes in a convenient small storage container with the pictured items shown.
Inside the storage container are 5 colored cubes with the letters of the alphabet printed on the faces. Each letter of the alphabet appears just once on 1 face of 1 of the 5 cubes.
The blue cube is called the vowel cube because it contains the 5 vowels, E, A, O, I, U, and the sometimes vowel Y. The red cube contains the 5 most frequently used consonants of the alphabet, H, N, R, S, and T. The green cube contains the next 5 most frequently used consonants of the alphabet, D, C, L, F, and M. The yellow cube contains the next 5 most frequently used consonants of the alphabet, W, P, G, B, and V. The orange cube contains the 5 least frequently used letters of the alphabet, K, X, J, Q, and Z.
The blue cube has letters on each face of the cubes, but the other 4 cubes have 5 letters and 1 blank face. This unique arrangement of letters on the cubes forms the basis for the playing of the basic game as detailed in the instruction sheet included in the storage container.
The game includes 44 strips of 7 letters each for a total of 308 letter tiles. The strips are perforated for easy separation of the tiles. To play the game players select on their turn 1 of the 5 cubes and rolls it. Then the player takes a letter tile matching the letter rolled. If a blank face is rolled the player takes a tile with a square matching the color of the cube rolled. A blank face is considered wild and the player can use any 1 of the five letters on the cube.
The basic game of ALPHA CUBES® is not played with a fixed number of letter tiles. The number of letter tiles needed is dependent on the number of players (which is unlimited) and how the players play the game. Even with a total of 308 letter tiles available it is possible to run out of some necessary tiles. Players will have to improvise if that situation occurs.
